Boston College School of Social Work,
Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.

In a culture where faster is always better and the mental health consequences of our culture’s “disease of a-thousand-things-to-do” are reaching epidemic proportions, our skills as mental health professionals are needed to help people cope with the stresses of life in a speed-obsessed, time-starved society.  How do we create conditions—for ourselves and for our clients—that invite renewal, calm and balance in daily life?

This workshop will present tools for working effectively with the many clients who, due to their chronic busyness and the culture that feeds it, are cut off from their deeper feelings, creative possibilities, spiritual sustenance, and the experience of depth and satisfaction in everyday life.  This disconnection from self can also negatively influence relationships with partners, children, coworkers and others.

Through didactic presentation, discussion and experiential exercises, participants will be introduced to the six core practices for self-care in a 24/7 world, as outlined in Ms. Seixas’ book, Finding the Deep River Within. 4 CE’s for social workers and LMHC’s.
